About reviewquotes
The best line of a review is the one you’d mark with a highlighter. This site collects those lines: from critics, from customers, from Reviewer 2 and from the people who review your code.
74 quotes so far, added by 1 contributor.
How a quote gets here
- Someone submits it. Anyone with an account can submit a quote, with where it came from and who wrote it.
- An approver checks it. Every quote is read by a person before it’s published. They check the source, look for duplicates and, for peer and code reviews, make sure nobody can be identified.
- It’s published, with credit to the original reviewer and a link to the full review where we have one.
House rules
- Short excerpts, always credited. We quote a line or two, never a whole review, and name the reviewer and publication when they’re public.
- Peer and code reviews are anonymous. No names of authors, reviewers, journals, companies or projects. The joke is the line, not the person.
- Exact words only. Quotes are copied as written. If we can’t verify a line, it doesn’t go up.
- Removal on request. Wrote a review quoted here, or it’s about you? Every quote page has a Request removal link, and a person reads every request.
What we store about you
Visitors who only read the site: nothing personal. We use Google Tag Manager with Google Analytics to count visits and see which quotes people read and share, but analytics cookies are only set if you choose Accept in the cookie bar. Without that, Google only receives anonymous, cookieless signals. Nothing is used for advertising. You can change your choice with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
Separately, the site counts page views itself: per page and per day, plus which site a visitor came from. It uses no cookies and stores nothing about you (no IP address, no browser details).
If you have an account, you can also choose on your account page (and when you sign up) whether Google Analytics may measure your use of the site while you’re signed in. If you say yes, it applies on every device you sign in on, and Google Analytics receives your account number, never your email address or name. You can change it any time.
If you create an account, we store:
- Your email address, to sign you in with a one-time code and to tell you what happened to your quotes. It’s never shown on the site.
- The public name and the optional bio you choose, shown with your quotes and on your profile page.
- The quotes you submit, and the review decisions about them.
- Your choice about Google Analytics, and when you made it.
Our own cookies are only used to sign you in and keep you signed in. Emails are sent through Amazon Web Services in the EU (Frankfurt), where the site and its database are hosted too. Want your account and data deleted? Use the contact form.
